Hello, I'm Dr. Mariana Fernandez Lozada, a dentist specialist in Prosthodontics and the founder of Guiding Light Dental. Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, I come from a family deeply rooted in healthcare, as both of my parents are cardiologists. From a young age, I was inspired by their dedication to serving others, which shaped both my values and my calling.
My journey into dentistry began early. At just 16 years old, I started working as a dental assistant in my aunt's practice, where my curiosity quickly grew into a passion. I really enjoyed working with my hands and helping people taking an artistic approach. I earned my dental degree from Santa María University in Caracas Venezuela and worked in private practice as a general dentist, while also volunteering with nonprofit organizations to care for underserved populations, including patients with special needs and remote Venezuelan indigenous native communities.
Due to Venezuela's economic crisis, I relocated to the United States, where I pursued Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the University of Connecticut's John Dempsey Hospital. It was there that I met my husband, Alvaro Ramos, a prosthodontist from who encouraged me to further specialize. I went on to complete a three-year residency in Prosthodontics at the University of Illinois at Chicago, earning a master's degree in dental sciences with a focus on complex restorative and implant dentistry.
Following my training, I worked in an implant center corporation where I gained extensive experience in full-mouth rehabilitation, implant dentistry, and esthetic restorations. These experiences reinforced my desire to create a practice where comprehensive, high-quality care could be delivered thoughtfully and collaboratively; leading to the creation of Guiding Light Dental.
For me, dentistry is about more than teeth; it's about people. I believe excellent care begins with listening, understanding each patient's goals, and guiding them with clarity and compassion. My faith is central to how I live and practice dentistry, and I see this profession as a calling. My mission is to serve every patient with integrity, kindness, and excellence, restoring not only smiles, but confidence and peace of mind.
Outside of the office, I enjoy spending my spare time with my husband, Alvaro, and our dog, Vito. I love traveling, exploring new outdoor places, and trying different restaurants, as well as relaxing with a good movie at the theater. I am also an aunt to many nieces and nephews, a role I cherish deeply. At home, I enjoy gardening, entertaining friends and family, practicing Pilates, and listening to podcasts or music while cleaning my house or taking Vito out for walks.
