What Is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge fills the gap left by one or more missing teeth. It works by anchoring to the teeth on either side of the space, creating a natural-looking and functional replacement.

We offer several types of bridges:

  • Traditional bridges, the most common type, use crowns on both sides to hold the replacement tooth in place.
  • Cantilever bridges are supported by a crown on just one side, often used when only one healthy tooth is available.
  • Maryland bridges use a metal or porcelain framework bonded to the backs of nearby teeth.
  • Implant-supported bridges are secured with dental implants instead of natural teeth.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Dental Bridge?

Dental bridges are a great option for patients who are missing one or more teeth and still have healthy teeth or dental implants nearby to support the restoration. You should also have good overall oral health and be free from gum disease or severe tooth decay in the surrounding areas.

We’ll evaluate your oral health and help you choose the option that fits your smile best.

What Is the Process for Getting a Bridge?

During your first visit, we’ll prepare the teeth next to the gap by gently reshaping them to support the bridge. We’ll then take detailed impressions and help you choose the right shade for a natural look. A temporary bridge will be placed to protect your teeth while your custom restoration is being crafted in the lab.

Once your permanent bridge is ready—usually within a couple of weeks—you’ll come back for the final fitting. We’ll check the fit, make any needed adjustments, and securely place the bridge so it looks and feels just right.

Why Are Dental Bridges a Good Option?

  • Restore everyday function
  • Boost confidence
  • Prevent jawbone strain from uneven chewing
  • Maintain proper face shape and alignment
  • Improve bite stability
  • Support long-term oral health

How Long Does a Dental Bridge Last?

With regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental visits, a bridge can last anywhere from 5 to 15 years—or even longer. Regular check-ups with our dentist will ensure that your bridge stays in good condition and any adjustments can be made as needed.
